Access, Opportunity & Engagement Statement
At VCU School of Public Health, we are deeply committed to promoting access, opportunities, and engagement. This commitment is the foundation of our mission as an academic institution dedicated to public health. We recognize that a safe and welcoming environment is essential for fostering innovative thinking, groundbreaking research, and effective learning.
Our fundamental values and goals are a testament to this commitment:
Goal 1: Recruit, retain, and develop a varied community of students, faculty, and staff.
Goal 2: Provide a world-class academic environment that enhances teaching, research, and service.
Goal 3: Ensure accountability for initiatives to improve access, opportunities, and engaging within SOPH and the surrounding communities.
These goals and strategies have informed our mission and vision:
Our Mission
Our mission is not an individual effort but a collective journey. We strive to educate, engage, and empower the SoPH community, understanding that this goal can only be accomplished by fostering a comprehensive intellectual and physical environment. This environment allows all faculty, staff, and students to contribute to the greater good of the community culture and to enhance the experiences of everyone involved.
Our Vision
Our vision is rooted in the belief that every community member is valuable and that a variety of cultures, perspectives, and identities enrich our academic and workplace experiences. We promote respectful and meaningful inquiry across actual or perceived differences, aiming to create an environment where these differences are not only accepted but also appreciated. Each member of our community is supported and provided with opportunities to achieve their academic and professional goals.
